PURPOSE & VALUES
Everyone has a purpose, so do we.
We aim to make a tangible difference to the quality of life itself. The way we do it is by assisting children, adolescents, adults and their families in their learning, growth and development journeys by providing counselling and psychotherapy, tailored to the needs of the individual.
With purpose, comes values.
As a team, the values that speak to us, and inspire us to be better versions of ourselves, and are reflected in the way we conduct ourselves. We don’t have our values, our values have us.
The Latin word, congruō means “I meet together, I agree”. At Circle of Life, we are interested in embracing our own humanity and helping others do the same. This orientation helps us come together in harmony with our clients and support their journey. In our work, we help individuals build a bridge between their real and ideal selves, that is, the people they are currently, and those they would ideally like to become, thus, creating a sense of acceptance and decreasing the feelings of incongruence that result when people compare the differences between these two states.
2. SELF- REFLECTION
We love learning, growth and development! We believe that introspection or self-reflection is very important in understanding ourselves. Which is why looking inwards, challenging our perspectives, questioning our experiences and learning from our clients’ reflections as well, is what we value.
3. EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE
In our work, we use evidence-based techniques that can help us understand the issues we are addressing and to be able to design suitable interventions. We are informed by research and theory from fields such as psychology, education, philosophy, arts and literature and sociology.
We are exclusive at what we do and what makes us exclusive is our ability to be inclusive. We want to include all communities that make up our social world by creating vibrant and stimulating avenues for engagement. We believe in employing divergent perspectives, contemporary practices, thought-provoking approaches and fresh paradigms in our work. This is reflected in the face-to-face work with our clients and in our community workshops.
